It was the most lovely thing I’ve ever seen, darling. You were – enchanting, that’s the word. Your spangles sparkled, and your smile was radiant. The audience couldn’t take their eyes off you. You did it just like Mummy told you, you owned the space. It took me right back to my first West End.
I agree, Third Sheep wasn’t the biggest part. But it was an important part, a part which significantly advanced the action. Nobody could fail to notice you, I’m sure they were all talking about you afterwards.
It really didn’t matter that you forgot your lines. I’m sure the audience didn’t notice. And when you started singing, When You’re Smiling, that more than made up for it. And going into a tap dance at that point was a stroke of genius.
A tap-dancing Angel Gabriel was the last thing the audience were expecting. And when you fell off the stage during the routine and just kept on singing – well, I could have cheered!
Next year’s Nativity, you’ll be the Virgin Mary, I would bet on it.
