Guidelines for Submission to Flash PPink

This quarterly magazine will publish work by:

  1. Those who have attended the workshops organised by Homo Promos and Gay Authors Workshop.
  2. Members of Gay Authors Workshop (GAW).

Those who have attended workshops but not become members of GAW can publish two pieces in the magazine, but after that they will be expected to become members.
Contact Gay Authors Workshop for a membership form.

The magazine is geared to the publication of short form fiction, aka Flash Fiction. We are looking for work with a strong narrative structure and shape, with a definite conclusion or 'punchline' up to 1,000 words long.

Each issue in addition will also feature one 'Star Story' of up to 1500 words, but submissions of this length will be subject to fiercer competition.

Stories of all genres are welcome. Though we offer a platform for LGBTQ+ writers and our allies, that does not restrict us to Queer material alone. We will also publish poetry of up to 70 lines, provided it contains a strong narrative element.

If you need to, you can write a short introduction to your work (max 50-words), although the best work tends to speak for itself.

You are welcome to suggest pictures or drawings to use as illustrations to your story, provided they are out of copyright (which is your responsibility to check). Please also supply a 50-word biography, and a headshot, if you haven’t already provided one.

Format

It greatly helps the editors if writers format their stories for us in advance as follows please:

  • Put the title and your name for publication at the top of the first page, and in the title of the file.
  • Write the story in Word or an .RTF file.
  • Indent the first line of all paragraphs except the first.
  • Use em-dash (–) not en-dash (-) in the text.
  • Use a single inverted comma (') not double (") for quotations or speech.
  • Use italics for names, e.g. Daily Telegraph, Broadcasting House
The e-Magazine
  • We are aiming for 12 to 16 pages per edition.
  • No author may have more than two pieces in any one issue.
  • The editors are Peter Scott-Presland and Stephanie Dickinson. The editors' decisions are final.
